PPDNF Annual Report 2007-2008Report from the Chair[jump to other 2007/08 reports] 2007/8 has been another busy year for the PPDNF. This was the year that we celebrated the 10th birthday of the organisation! It seems significant that in the 10th year of existence, at the AGM in 2007, the membership made the decision to become a multi professional Forum, changing the name of the organisation to the Practice and Professional Development NMAHP Forum, whilst retaining the unique and identifiable brand of the PPDNF. As part of the integration strategy, the PPDNF made contact with key AHP organisations and strategic personnel within Scotland to let them know of the change in status and inviting AHPs to join. It was encouraging to welcome ?? new AHP members. At the AGM last year a couple of changes to the constitution were formalised. Firstly adding the word ‘normally’ in the sentence that describes the length of service for committee members allowed me to continue as Chair, a privilege and a responsibility!. Secondly the decision that the retiring chair remains on the committee in an ex officia capacity for one year will help transition and sustainability of the organisation when the chair retires. Two conferences in November were highlights of 2007. The International Practice Development Conference was held in Melbourne Australia. Caroline Scott, Moira Brown and myself travelled to the Antipodes to network, learn and share with practice developers from around the world. Between us we presented 7 papers and a poster. It was a wonderful experience and was over too soon! We returned to the PPDNF conference held at St Johns Hospital in Livingstone, which was also where we celebrated the 10th birthday! The cake was wonderful with the PPDNF logo on the icing. Birthday presents also wrapped in ppdnf logo paper were amazing and will be treasured! It was a pleasure to invite our old friend Brendan McCormack back to present a keynote paper on his work on the work place culture tool. It was also fantastic to invite one of the founder members and first chair of the PPDNF Liz Swan to co present with me a critical conversation about the PPDNF then and now. Sue Sloan and Kate Cocozza presented concurrent sessions on the Fish Philosophy and De Bonos thinking hats and shoes, whilst Brendan also presented a concurrent session on an observation tool. It was a good day for the 90 delegates and raised funds for the PPDNF to sustain the free membership of the PPDNF. PPDNF members continue to participate in three Action Learning sets. We meet monthly at central locations around Scotland and the evaluations continue to provide evidence to support the continuation of this work. Subgroup work of the PPDNF continues with challenges of the members of the groups committing time to these projects as well as their substantive posts. It has been a privilege for me to represent the PPDNF at a national group set up by QIS PDU to create a national practice development strategy; it will be good to see the results of this work which will inform the direction of travel for the PD work in Scotland. The website continues to provide an amazing opportunity to network and share with others around the world. It’s amazing to hear how many have accessed the site from countries all over the world and there are plans to make more use of the website in the future. Anecdotal evidence from members and others who post questions and ask for help is always encouraging. In summary, another excellent year of networking and support has taken place with huge commitment being displayed by the committee and members. In this age of technology, the committee are discussing how best to use 21st century resources to our advantage eg video conferencing meetings to allow easier accessibility and to cut down on the travel time; also piloting a telephone action learning set instead of the usual face to face set is being seriously considered. Many thanks to all members of the PPDNF for their enthusiasm, support and commitment. Without you there would be no PPDNF!!
