Minutes from previous meetingAccepted with one amendment. Jane asked that “final” replaced by “first draft” in the evidencing practice section Update from the Working GroupsConference"Carpe Diem" (Seize the Day). Susan and Karen updated group. Date is 14th April 2005. Venue – Dewars Conference Centre in Perth. Draft programme tabled and suggestions made. Fiona to contact Belinda Dewar to discuss Action Learning Presentation and Janet Thompson re transferability of clinical skills project with NHS Education for Scotland. Afternoon workshops : NES will be asked to present a session on Practice Education Facilitators. Jane Christie suggested a slot on evidencing practice. Fiona agreed to do a session on the process of action learning with Belinda Dewar. Hazel McKenzie to be invited to do something on leadership. Susan will be going on Maternity leave and will need new group members to support. Kate Lambie will join the group. Susan and Karen will call for abstracts through email shortly. It was agreed that the Conference committee will have overnight accommodation on 13th April paid by PPDNF to prepare for the conference. Advertising will be through PPDNF members, information will also be sent to Directors of Nursing, to QIS Practice Development Unit, Scottish Executive, RCN events, and to include private sector and care commission. Information also to go onto the developing practice network website. Sponsorship will be sought by several members at the meeting. Evidencing PracticeJane fed back on framework. Second draft to go out with agenda for discussion at February meeting. Will also be discussed at the conference. HEI PresentationCaroline Scott has used presentation at QMUC. Small changes to be made then put onto the website. Facilitation toolkitWeb based toolkit. PPDNF members are invited to share useful icebreakers, exercises etc to help practice development projects. John Norden has asked if he can share is Practice Development Toolkit with the Forum. This is a resource pack he has developed for students undertaking a BA in Nursing. He would welcome feedback and suggestions for the pack. All agreed that this would be interesting. Caroline Scott to make contact with him. Practice Development StrategySome problems getting this group together. Aim to get together before the next meeting. Open ForumJames Cassidy and Yvonne Neilson have developed a contraception leaflet which was launched nationally. James asked how members are they dealing with the new Mental Health Act. Fiona Minto from Marie Curie fed back work and asked for suggestions on individualised care in day services. Paula Ingram had attended agenda for change preparation course. Paula agreed to write a report for the PPDNF website. Paula had also been involved in new infusion charts, which she will share with the group. Helen Skinner requested help with Oral Hygiene. This request is also on the website. Jane Camp reported on her successful study day on prescribing. Kevin Hurst: developed a training pack for Perth supporting learning disabilities in acute setting. This was supported by work done in Edinburgh. Kevin will be rolling out new nursing documentation next year. Feedback from Caroline Scott and Fiona Cook on presenting at the Developing Practice Network called “Scots Wha’ Ha’e” reporting on the PPDNF work in Scotland. The evaluation should be revisited by PPDNF to ensure we have met the recommendations. To be discussed at next meeting. ChairpersonThe PPDNF will be 10 years old in 2006 and suggestions are invited for how we should celebrate this. AGM in April 2005: 4 of 5 committee members will be due to stand down. All members asked to consider putting their name forward or nominating others for office. Action Learning Sets. Two groups have been running for 6months. Evaluation in December. Interest from other PPDNF members are welcome for 2005. If interested please contact secretaries. SecretaryWebsiteSep 2004: 265 visitors, 510 visits These numbers are up from the summer months, when the average number of visits was 168. In November, popular pages have been the noticeboard (most popular), meetings, and projects section (especially the risk management page). The conference page has also been popular this month. Access to site: In November the average visit length has been 129 seconds (just over 2 minutes). 10% of visitors spent more than 5 minutes on the site. Database/Mailing ListPPDNF joining form will include a tick box to indicate if they are happy for their names to be included in the mailing list. Treasurers ReportPrevious balance £2642.06 Recent transactions from State Hospital
and Dolby Balance now £2312.49 Pump priming Action learning has used some funds. PPDNF members invited to suggest use of funds to benefit the wider forum. Framework for Developing Nursing Roles Consultation (SE 2004)James led a professional discussion and debate of the impact and consequences of this paper for Practice Developers. Group agreed that although some of the drivers were not necessarily related to PD, it did provide opportunities for PD to be developed and was therefore seen as an opportunity.
